Commemorating National Hunger Awareness Day in June, Gleanings From the Harvest for Galveston is having its second annual Hunger Awareness Dinner on Friday, June 3rd at the Christian Life Center at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church at 6:00 PM
5/5/2005

National Hunger Awareness Day is commemorated across the country bringing communities together to build public awareness of the severe hunger crisis both globally and locally. With the participation of Galveston Island’s top hotels and restaurants, Gleanings from the Harvest for Galveston is hosting its second Hunger Awareness Dinner, an enlightening audience participation event that visibly demonstrates the scale of hunger and presents the challenges and solutions in reaching out to the children, elderly and working poor in Galveston.

At the Hunger Awareness Dinner each guest will be randomly assigned to tables representing the divergent economic conditions of the world’s population.  At each table the first course will represent the typical meal of that income level.  All guests will be invited to join in a lively discussion presenting the challenges of hunger both worldwide and locally as well.  Guests will then partake in a “Gleanings Buffet” representing the generosity of local hotels and restaurants in a practical illustration of the mission of The Gleanings from the Harvest for Galveston.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 18.  You can purchase tickets at the following locations: The William Temple Episcopal Center 762-8641, The Church of the Living God 744-7195, The Islamic Center 750-8555 and Antonelli’s Travel Plaza 765-7759.  Tickets can be bought that evening at the event at the Moody Memorial First United Methodist Christian Life Center for $20 for adults and $15 for children.  The Christian Life Center is at Moody Memorial First United Methodist Church, 2803 53rd Street and Avenue U in Galveston, Texas

Gleanings From The Harvest for Galveston is a vital and necessary interfaith food procurement and distribution network that maximizes its relationships with major food distributors and producers to effectively provide nourishing food to those who most need it.  Not only to the truly destitute but the many families in our region that represent the “working poor.”  Their efforts are being supported through interfaith and community cooperation.
